Are you experiencing itchiness at the level of your right palm? What does it mean? The skin on the palm is exposed to various irritants, such as toxic substances, chemicals or even common household products. The itchiness is actually one of the most common symptoms, being suggestive of a potential allergy to a certain object or substance. This symptom is often present at the level of the right palm, as this is the dominant hand (it can also occur because you have touched the irritating substance with the respective hand). In the situation that you have an itchy right palm, you should refrain from scratching, as such actions can aggravate the itchiness. Also, it might be a good idea to avoid the irritating substance/object, provided you know what caused it in the first place. Before trying out any remedies, it is important to visit the doctor and obtain a correct diagnosis. Only after you know the condition from which you are suffering, you can follow an adequate treatment or try out different natural remedies.

  • Infection – most common, bacterial or fungal overgrowth (such as candida albicans)
  • Dry skin – low sebum production at the level of the skin (commonly caused by the cold weather, when the air is dry; also seen in people who are older in age)

  • HIV/AIDS
  • Crohn’s disease

Treatment for Right Palm Itchiness

The treatment can be addressed to the symptoms experienced by the patient and also to the underlying cause. Sometimes, treating the underlying condition is required, in order for the experienced symptoms to disappear. These are the most common measures of treatment recommended for such problems:

  • Antihistamines
  • Topical or oral administration (depending on the severity of the allergic reaction)
  • Can reduce the intensity of the itchiness and also the associated inflammation
  • Corticosteroids
  • Recommended in more severe cases of allergies
  • Topical or oral administration
  • Cannot be administered for prolonged periods of time, due to the overall negative side-effects
  • Antifungal medication
  • Topical or oral administration (depending on the severity of the fungal infection)
  • Antibiotics
  • Most common – topical administration
  • Oral administration might be reserved for more severe cases
  • If antibiotics are administered orally, they have to be taken for as long as they are prescribed for, otherwise the bacteria will develop resistance to the treatment
  • Probiotic supplements are administered at the same time with the oral antibiotics, so as to maintain a healthy intestinal flora.
